82.4.28 Medal consists of a white enameled cross of St. Maurice with the green enameled Maltese cross of St. Lazarus (Ordine Di San Maurizio E San Laazro) appearing between the former's arms. Crosses are bordered with gilded metal. Medal is suspended from a green moire neck ribbon by means of a gilded brass loop and a gold crown. Obverse and reverse are identical in all respects. 82.4.28a Presentation box is of wood, covered with dark green/gray feather grained paper, gilt monogram on lid's upper surface. Interior is lined with black velvet and white silk, printed in blue upon the silk lid lining are the same arms as are depicted on badge reverse. Lid closure is effected by means of a brass hinge and stud arrangement. Within box is 3 7/8" x 1 1/2" slip of cardboard with typed inscription. 84.2.29b Breast star of badge consists of a miniature version of the medal upon a silver four-pointed plaque. Reverse of badge is convex, with silver disc glued to center; disc is maker's tag, with inscription around perimeter of disc, in center which is a raised representation of the arms of the Kingdom of Italy. Heavy, hinged silver pin with hook/catch is means of affixing.
