Double breasted frock coat with stand up collar and cuffs of velvet. Body closes with eighteen pattern 1832 general staff buttons (two rows, three groups of three). Although there are button holes down each edge, body closes by left flap with two hooks and eyes to secure waist. Body lined in black cotton (faded, worn and torn) with padded chest and left breast pocket. Collar is worn with a hook loop inside neck (very worn) and a single hook and eye closure. Velvet cuffs have three button closure and are mildly worn. Arms lined in white. Skirts are open to waist with a back vent the same length. Vent is loose at top of overlap. Pleats at side of vent have deep pockets with buttons at top and bottom. Coat shows mild wear and is moth damaged (primarily on upper body and arms). Extra rich shoulder straps have five rows of bullion with a velvet field having a star at either end. Bullion is very tarnished with some loosening. Straps sewn on at ends with sides open. Cotton backing faded.
