Sword 4 3/4" overall, blade 35 3/4" x 1 1/4" wide at the hilt, curved and single edged with only a rudimentary false edge. Two fullers: one broad one running from the ricasso to within 10" of the point, and a shorter narrow one at the back of the blade. The back of the blade is wide and flat. The grips are wood covered with leather and wound with twisted brass wire. The pommel is of the Phygian helmet pattern and the guard is of the half-basket type with a knuckle-bow and two branches of the obverse side joining an oval counterguard. All metal parts of the hilt are brass. 83.9.1a -- Iron scabbard, 37 1/4" long with two rings for suspension and reinforced drag.
