M1904 McClellan Cavalry saddle with 11" seat, M1904 1/4" straps, 4 1/2" diameter, 1/4" strap rings and 5 1/2" diameter 1/4 strap ring safe, iron stirrups and 20" horse hair cinch. Saddle tree is M1896 pattern with covering of 6-7oz russet collar leather with bottoms of side bars covered with sheepskin fleece. Four brass foot staples, two on front of pommel for coat straps, two on rear of cantle for attaching saddle bags. A brass saddle bag stud is riveted through the rear quarter strap to the top of the cantle arc. Four mortised slots with brass guard plates. Remaining three spaced evenly on cantle. Three rear slots, one front slot and two front foot staples for 5/8" coat straps. Coat straps have 1" wide brass buckles and a stop to keep them from pulling out of the saddle. Four 1 3/4" brass rings, two on pommel end of side bars, two on back of cantle, held with foot staples for attaching other equipments.1/4" straps are riveted over the pommel and cantle and end with a 1 1/4" x 1 3/8" brass halter square sewn at the edge of the side bars. 89.5.19a&b -- Adjustable side quarter straps are looped through the four halter squares and to a 4" quarter strap ring below the center of the saddle on each side. 89.5.19c&d -- two rings are backed with 5 3/4" diameter leather safes with sheepskin lining. Leather cinch straps are 1 3/8"" x 38 1/2" and are sewn to the bottom of each 1/4 strap ring to attach the cinch. 89.5.19e -- Cinch of 24 strand horse hair ropes, tied at ends to two, 4 1/2" iron rings with leather covering around bottom half, and sewn to 6 1/2" in diameter leather safes. 89.5.19f&g -- Stirrup straps are 1 5/8" wide and adjusted to 23" long and fasten with a 2" x 2 1/2" brass buckle. Stirrup straps passes through integral iron loop on top of bell shaped iron stirrup. 89.5.19h&i -- Tread of stirrups are open.
