59.180.1 -- Covered wagon of plank and brace construction, the wood in this wagon is extremely worn and broken or replaced in many places. There is a new perch, futchells braced on the axle and an unusual wood and iron fifth wheel. The wooden spoke wheels and hubs are cracked and show extreme wear. In all but the left front wheel replacement felloes can be seen. There are two side steps (both broken), in the center with a lazy board on the right and a grease bucket (rim loose) on the left. Iron cleats on the front sides are loose and there are large gaps in the side planking. The end gates (front taller than the back) face outward from the body and although the front gate is in good condition, the back is not. There is a large hole in the bottom of it, the top is broken down and the left rear latch is pulled off the gate. There is a plank bench near the front of the wagon, and the floor is in fair shape. Small for its kind this wagon only has six bows and they have brackets in the top (missing on 3rd from front) to connect them all with a center rail (missing). The top is unbleached muslin, generally stained, with a large tear front left and a hole in the rear center. All ropes are new. 59.180.1a -- The pole is a drop tongue and the hounds and pole both show much wear. The hounds are iron faced with wood braces. The pole cap has a large fixed ring and long flanges of iron going 1/2 way down the pole. There is repair work at the top.
