Blue wool cutaway coat, double-breasted with two rows of five sets of two 7/8" diameter Pattern 1832 General Officer gilded brass buttons. Three inch wide buff wool collar with three brass hook and eye closures. White gilded silk lining in both body and sleeves. Three and a half wide buff wool cuffs with three 5/8" Pattern 1832 General Officer buttons. Button closures, one on the buff cuff and two above the cuff (two buttons missing off each cuff). Waist closes with brass hook and retainer. Two false pockets below rear waist seam with four 7/8" diameter Pattern 1832 buttons as above on each. Two 7/8" Pattern 1832 buttons as above on rear waist seam where the tail splits. Blue wool tails with buff lining and trim with vertical slit pocket in lining of each three inch diameter gold embroidered six point star (tarnished) on termination of each tail. Two 1" x 3 1/2" gold shoulder board/bridle insignia on each shoulder embroidered with one 1/2" star in center, two 3/8" oak leaves on each end and 1/4" border. (Insignia slightly tarnished). Two holes on each shoulder 1/4" below the collar, hand whip stitched, for attaching epaulets (86.16.2). Entire coat is hand sewn.
