A brass 6 inch diameter surveyors compass having silver face with directional designations and makers name engraved upon it. Needle is blued steel and mount is brass. The rim with the degrees on it is silver with finely etched numbers. There is an etched wreath around the brass center and an etched fleur-de-lis etched where North would be. Affixed to the South end on the sight arm are two levels. Both ends have holes for attaching two curvilinear-top sight vanes with thumb screws(sights-03.02.001a & b.Each (6.375 in x 1 in) brass sight has a peg and screw mounting device. Also included with the compass is the original brass ball and socket leveling mount (03.020.1c)(4.75 in x 1.125 in diameter) It attaches the compass to the tripod. The top has ball and socket joint and the bottom has socket for tripod with a tightening screw.
